Disgruntled police officers are seeking a meeting with Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov over problems in the Interior Ministry, Ivan Savov from the union federation at the Interior Ministry reported.

Savov stated Monday that one of the reasons for dissatisfaction is that the leadership of the Interior Ministry has stopped the money that employees receive for specific working conditions.

He added that the problems of police officers continue to increase with some divisions in the capital Sofia lacking money for paper, petrol or car parts for repairs.

Savov suggested that the police will protest if urgent measures are not taken. He concluded that the management of the Ministry of Interior Ministry uses the financial crisis as an excuse for not providing basic materials.

In December around 500 police officers gathered to smoke in front of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry in Sofia to protest over unfair treatment against them.

Police officials said that the reasons for the smoking protest was the ongoing lack of dialogue between management and employees and the protests also marked one year since the first such protests in Bulgaria.
