The MPs from Bulgaria’s RZS party and the majority of the party’s Political Council are going to skip all parliamentary sessions in January.

The information was revealed Monday by the Member of the Parliament from the Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, during a special press conference.

Tsvetanov further said the party leadership has decided to hold meetings with voters from all over the country instead of attending plenary hall, adding the decision has been made at the last RZS conference in the Black Sea town of Pomorie.

During the absence of the RZS MPs, the Parliament will hold important sessions such as deciding on amendments of the Genetically Modified Food Act and the second reading of the Electronic Communications Act.

According to the Parliament’s Code, if a MP misses more than three sessions in a month, two thirds of his or her monthly salary is withheld.

The RZS group in the Parliament fell apart recently as one of its MPs, Mario Tagarinski, decided to leave it. This left RZS with only 9 MPs, while at least 10 are required to have a group. It also led to the removal of the party leader, Yane Yanev, as head of the Parliamentary Anti-Corruption Committee, withdrawal of the RZS support for the government of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party, accusations that Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, is personally responsible about the RZS troubles, and even a nasty scandal between Yanev and the Ataka leader Volen Siderov, who claimed that Yanev was dependent on people who knew about his hidden homosexuality
