Bulgaria: Man Sets His Wife On Fire in Bulgarian Village Before Suicide

Authorities in Bulgaria are investigating a severe case of domestic violence in the village of Sitovo, Silistra region, after a man set a woman on fire and later took his own life.

The incident was reported on April 12 at around 5:30 p.m. via the emergency number 112, according to the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Silistra. Initial findings indicate that a 43-year-old man inflicted serious burns on a 48-year-old woman with whom he was living.

Emergency teams arriving at the scene confirmed that the man had died. His body was discovered on the balcony of the apartment, and investigators reported that there were no visible signs of external violence.

The injured woman was first taken to the Silistra hospital and later transferred to a medical facility in Ruse. Her condition remains critical, with doctors stating that her life is in danger due to severe burns to the face and body.

A pre-trial investigation has been opened on charges related to grievous bodily harm committed in the context of domestic violence. Prosecutors are overseeing the case as authorities continue to establish all details surrounding the incident.
