Bulgaria's conservative Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party, who recently saw the demise of its parliamentary group, has withdrawn its support for the center-right government.
“The party suspends its support for the government and will act, as of January 27, as right-conservative opposition to those in power,” RZS leader Yane Yanev said on Monday, adding that his party will be the sole alternative to the post-totalitarian regime, imposed by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
The party has been in the spotlight for the last month after one of its members Mario Tagarinski announced he was quitting the parliamentary group, leading to its demise since it now falls short of the required minimum of ten members.
The party leader Yane Yanev was quick to blame the prime minister for the falling apart of the parliamentary group and announced he will keep his promise to give the new government a six-month “grace period”, which expires on January 27.
Speaking at a press conference in the coastal town of Burgas, Yanev blamed the prime minister of “telling only lies to the Bulgarians”.
He accused him of replacing the vote of the people by establishing a new illegal tree-way coalition, modeled on the previous Socialist-led government. According to Yanev the new behind-the-scene coalition is made up of the leaders of the ruling GERB, the nationalist Ataka and the die-hard right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria parties, which have been the staunches supporters of the current government.
“Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party will not enter into coalitions until the country holds new parliamentary elections. The party will run solo at the upcoming local and presidential elections,” Yanev announced.
The party plans to make a review of the work of the current government, the conclusions of which will be announced at a press conference at the end of January.
GERB leader Boyko Borissov reacted to the fall of the Zhelyazkov government during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page, following the mass protests across the country.
