The Sofia maternity hospital "Sheinovo" celebrated Tuesday the 75th anniversary of its establishment in the presence of Bulgaria's PM, Boyko Borisov, and French pop star of Bulgarian descent, Sylvie Vartan.
“My wish is for many and more beautiful and healthy little Bulgarians to be born here. The doctors and the entire staff are perfect; they really care about the babies and their mothers,” Vartan said at the ceremony.
Current Education Minister and prime candidate to become Sofia Mayor on the ballot of the ruling Citizens for European development of Bulgaria (GERB) party, Iordanka Fandakova, chimed in, saying “Sheinovo” was her favorite hospital because her grandson was born there three years ago.
Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, cut the ribbon of the new, remodeled main entrance, reception and registration area. Beginning Tuesday, all patients are to receive a special electronic card with information about the doctor examining them and other details surrounding the bay's birth.
3 300 babies have been born in the hospital since the beginning of the year.
Sylvie Vartan is in Sofia to preform a concert Wednesday night at the National Palace of Culture. She said her adopted daughter Darina is from Bulgaria and already sings some songs in Bulgarian, but added her own Bulgarian was at the level of a 7-year-old child – her age when she left the country.
