Bulgaria's Parliament Speaker Natalia Kiselova Calls Emergency Session for December 10
The new Speaker of the National Assembly, Natalia Kiselova, has scheduled an extraordinary parliamentary session for December 10 at 1:00 p.m.
With a surprise leave, the newly resigned Prime Minister Borisov avoided the hearing from the new parliament.
Prime Minister Boyko Borisov continued to avoid being heard by parliament in the new National Assembly. He took leave for tomorrow, the day MPs summoned him to speak about work on the European Union's Recovery and Sustainability Plan.
Borisov did not come to the parliament today to present his resignation according to the Constitution, and it was submitted in the office of the National Assembly.
This was not to the liking of Mika Zaykova, who chaired the first plenary session as the oldest MP, and she commented from the speakers' spot:
I don't want to go further into this, but Prime Minister's absence in person today is either because of shame in front of you and the Bulgarian people or disrespect to this institution. After all, we are a parliamentary republic."
On the same occasion, Maya Manolova from "Stand up! Mutri out" said:
"No party leader has allowed himself to turn the National Assembly into a laughing stock, as the GERB leader allowed himself, he is not here again."
In the previous parliament, the main opposition party BSP constantly attacked Borisov for not wanting to speak to the lawmakers, thus turning his back on parliamentary tradition.
The Prime Minister last spoke to MPs a year ago, in April 2020. He was last summoned to parliament in February over the case of a child who died of an electric shock from illegal kiosk on a busy Sofia street.
Borisov did not appear in the National Assembly to give explanations about the coronavirus crisis and economic measures, the water crisis, the negotiations with Northern Macedonia, the F-16 fighter deal, the supply of Covid vaccines and others.
At the end of February, the BSP estimated that they had 35 queries and 25 official questions to Boyko Borisov, but they were all diverted by GERB majority in the Parliament.
Atanas Zafirov, the acting leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), emphasized the importance of forming a government not only to pass the budget but to safeguard the democratic system in the country.
Kostadin Kostadinov, leader of the pro-Russian "Revival" party, emphasized that his party is ready to take responsibility for forming a government in Bulgaria if they receive a mandate
