Bulgarian notaries will have access to the national identification documents register, and to the national “Population” database.

From January 1, 2009, the notaries will me obliged to check personal information when issuing certificates on property deals.

This was included in the amendment of the Identification Document Law that the MPs recently passed.

The legislation changes aim to limit the possibilities for property deals frauds.

The level of clearance for the notaries is a matter of future discussions, because of the fear of personal data misuse. There have been such cases in the last few years.

The notaries will access the IDs database through a server, which will be situates in the Notary Chamber, and there will be control, Deputy Chair of the Parliament Interior Affairs Committee, Krasimir Tsipov, explained.

However, Hristo Biserov from DPS expressed his concerns that the new measures will not stop frauds.
