The former king's party, now a marginal liberal party, has joined forces with the ethnic Turkish 'dissidents' for the upcoming elections.

The National Movement for Stability and Prosperity and the National Party Freedom and Dignity became on Saturday the first coalition to register for the early elections in May.

NMSP was part of the so-called three-way coalition (2005-2009). The party failed to enter the Bulgarian Parliament after the 2009 general elections.

Kasim Dal, the self-proclaimed top "dissident" from the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms party, DPS, and Korman Ismailov, a former head of the youth organization of DPS, founded in December 2012, new party – National Party Freedom and Dignity, NPSD.

"More than a year ago we said we will be looking for coalition allies because of the difficult situation Bulgaria is now," Hristina Hristova, leader of the liberals, said.

Korman Ismailov, leader of NPSD, said that he is likely to top the coalition's ticket in the town of Kardzhali, where the population is predominantly ethnic Turks.
