Bulgaria is preparing itself from a flood of refugees from Syria in the wake of heightening of tensions in the region, revealed Bulgarian Red Cross chief Hristo Grigorov.

"A truck of Bulgaria's State Agency for Refugees is already travelling to the Turkish border to bring necessities needed for those who will seek refuge," said Grigorov.

Over the past 24 hours, Bulgarian authorities have intercepted 33 Syrians who have attempted to illegally cross the country's border with Turkey.

Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov had revealed that the migrant pressure on Bulgaria's Turkish border has increased by 50% over the last two months.

Turkey has already experienced a significant refugee wave from neighboring Syria.

Developments have intensified overnight, after a cross-border exchange of attacks between the two countries, which have claimed civilian lives.

Thursday Grigorov commented that the Bulgarian Red Cross is bracing resources for a potentially complicated situation at the Bulgarian border with Turkey.

"We are monitoring events in Syria and will be ready to react if need be," stated Grigorov.
