Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, announced that 1,1 million retired people in Bulgaria will receive a Christmas bonus of BGN 25.
Borisov spoke Sunday to the media at the Council of Ministers buildings, saying that the decision had been made after Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, presented a report about funds saved by the State Administration.
The retirees who have monthly pensions up to BGN 200 are those who would get the Christmas bonus, provided through money saved from all ministries whose employees would not be handed additional pay this holiday season.
Borisov said that the Regional Development and Agriculture Ministries already gave bonuses to their employees, however they will be deducted from their next month’s salary.
The PM further stated that the retirees’ bonus is far from substantial, but pointed out that the 2010 budget has been passed with a BGN 0,5 B deficit and this is all the country can afford right now.
