Debrecen have become the second Hungarian team to enter the Champions League group stage after a convincing home win over Bulgarian Champions Levski Sofia.
Levski lost 1-4 on aggregate and 0-2 on the night as Debrecen impressed their home crowd at the Ferenc Puskas Stadium in Budapest.
The hosts held a 2-1 lead from the first leg in Sofia, and as Zoltan Varga gave them an early lead on the night it was clear that things were going their way. Gergely Rudolf's goal shortly before the break sealed the deal, goal.com reported.
Debrecen were eager to delight the impressive 'home' crowd of 32 000 at the Ferenc Puskas Stadium in Budapest and did so from the outset.
After Varga's early strike to their credit, Levski did not give up, attempting to fight back through the likes of Georgi Hristov, who missed a great chance.
But Gergely Rudolf slammed a 25-yarder past Georgi Petkov with ferocity to bring the stadium to its feet before the break and to ensure that Levski needed four goals to progress.
They could not find even one as they stretched themselves at the back for the start of the second half, and as belief ebbed away they let the game run down for an historic win for Debrecen, who enter Pot 4 of the Champions League group stage seedings.
