Bulgaria's Interior Minister Dispels Notion of Increased Migration Pressure
Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov refuted claims of heightened migration pressure on Bulgaria, asserting that the country is experiencing a steady decline in such incidents
Bulgaria’s National Movement for Stability and Prosperity, known as the party of former Tsar Simeon Saxe-Coburg, has rejected allegations it had sabotaged the EP hearing of EU Commissioner-Designate Rumiana Jeleva.
“The NMSP is refuting the allegations aimed at manipulating the public opinion that it was involved in a scenario against the Bulgarian EC candidate Rumiana Jeleva,” reads a formal party statement issued Thursday.
The claims – including by representatives of the governing party GERB which has nominated Foreign Minister Jeleva as the country’s next EU Commissioner – stem largely from the fact that MEP from the NSMP party – Antoniya Parvanova – was attacked personally by Jeleva during her hearing at the Development Committee of the EP as the source of information showing Jeleva was involved in conflict of interests.
Parvanova herself revealed that she had sent a letter to a EU Commissioner containing publicly available information from the Bulgarian trade registers showing that in 2007-2009 Jeleva was simultaneously a MEP and a manager and owner of a private firm called Globul Consult.
“The NMSP has not participated in any way in any such actions aimed at discrediting the GERB EC candidate. The NMSP has no misgivings about Antoniya Parvanova who did not break the EP rules of conduct in any way,” the Tsar’s party says.
Apparently, seeing the performance of Bulgaria’s EC candidate Jeleva on Tuesday as problematic, the NSMP, to whose lines Bulgaria’s former EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva belongs, has further stated:
“The NSMP expresses its regret that a shadow has been cast over the capital accrued for Bulgaria in the last four years by Commissioner Kuneva in the EU institutions. This is national capital, not capital belonging only to the party or the respective person.”
It reminds that Kuneva has been voted “Commissioner of the Year” and “European of the Year” by the readers of European media.
