Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov has revealed he is to travel Ukraine and is "in talks" to pay visit there.

Mitov told reporters in Parliament Thursday that he was intending to visit representatives of the Bulgarian community living there.

"We are currently in talks as to when this will be possible," Focus News Agency quoted Mitov as saying.

Bulgaria's top diplomat made clear that packages of humanitarian aid were also being prepared. In his words, after the visit of Ukrainian lawmaker and chair of Ukraine's main Association of Bulgarians, Anton Kisse, Sofia was now aware of what the diaspora in Ukraine needed most urgently.

Mitov's remarks follow a low-key visit by his Ukrainian counterpart, Pavko Klimkin, to the Bulgarian capital earlier in February.

The Bulgarian diaspora living in Ukraine is evaluated between 200 000 and 250 000 people, though estimates suggest the number could be much higher.
