Bulgarians increased their confidence in the parliament and government in January, shows Gallup's monthly political and economic index, which was released on Wednesday.

According to the analysts, this is the result of the coming into power of a new government, rather than a real assessment of its concrete work.

Although 56 % of respondents expressed mistrust in the government in January, 28 % were confident in the executive, which is a significant improvement compared to previous levels of discontent which reached up to 70 %.

Similar trends are seen in the attitude towards parliament, with almost 20 % of respondents expressing confidence in the legislature, while mistrust towards it dropped markedly in the past months.

The share of people not likely to vote has registered a slight decrease, with 35.9 % of respondents saying they are not likely to vote in January, compared to 36.8 % in December 2014.

The support for most of the parliamentary parties increases, except for the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), the Patriotic Front (PF) and Ataka, which record a decrease of 0.5 % each.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) registers the highest increase in support of 1.7 %, followed by the Reformist Bloc (RB) with 0.6 %.

The ministers of the new cabinet also enjoy higher confidence, especially the Health Minister Petar Moskov who attracts the support of 27 % of the respondents, which is an increase of 13 % compared to December 2014.

Moskov enjoys one of the highest approval ratings amongst the ministers, which is also the case for Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

Nearly a third of the respondents express confidence in the President, while 50 % have mistrust in the presidential administration.

The institution maintains stable levels of popularity, despite being relatively low in historical perspective.
