At least 12 migrants, including four children, drowned on Friday after their boat capsized, just off the Greek island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea.
Coastguard officials said that they had responded to an SOS signal, finding 15 people on the shore upon their arrival, as well as 8 dead bodies, including 4 children.
The search for possible victims and survivors continues.
An investigation is to determine the cause of the incident and where the boat had been headed to.
The nationality of the people who had been on the boat remains unknown.
