The Swedish map of "racial tolerance," data source: World Values Survey
Bulgaria is among the countries with the lowest racial tolerance in Europe and the world, according to a study of Swedish researchers, cited by the Washington post.
Bulgaria, along with Albania, Moldova, and France, is in the group of countries where 20% to 29.9% of respondents have said they did not want to have as neighbor someone from another race.
Romania, Serbia, Macedonia and Hungary are in the next group, where between 15% and 19.9% of the population do not want neighbors from other races than their own.
With below 5%, Norway, Great Britain, Latvia and Andorra are among the most tolerant countries in Europe, while globally the list is topped by Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the US, and a number of countries in South America.
The most intolerant are Hong-Kong (71.8%), Bangladesh (71.7%), Jordan (51.4%) and India (43.5%).
The Swedish researchers found that the level of economic development of a country can be linked only to tolerance towards homosexuals (the better the economy, the highest the tolerance), but not directly to the level of racist tolerance or intolerance.
