Online dating and sex searching tools have enjoyed increased popularity, at least in the USA, as many believe that believe the world will come to an abrupt end on Friday, Dec. 21, corresponding to the end of the Mayan calendar.

"If the end is near, why not go out with a bang?" is said to be the underlying philosophy many who posted personal ads online in search of "End of the World" sex on the eve of the so-called "Mayan apocalypse".

While some people around the world are arming themselves and digging into bunkers, many New Yorkers are simply hoping for a hot time, The New York Post wrote.

Other singles posted ads on Craigslist.org and OKCupid.com, seeking apocalypse-themed dates, "casual encounters" and even "end of the world sex."

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said it has been flooded with more than 200 calls a day from people in search of reassurance the rumors of an impending doomsday are just a myth.
