American singer Katy Perry and English actor Russell Brand tied the knot Saturday night in India, representative of the couple has announced.

"The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couple's closest family and friends was performed by a Christian minister and longtime friend of the [bride's] family. The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India," the representative said Monday, as cited by People magazine.

Brand, 35, and Perry, 25, exchanged their vows in a traditional Indian wedding procession at the luxury Aman-I-Khas resort, near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary, where the couple got engaged in December.

The ceremony included elephants, Indian instruments, traditional Rajasthani folk musicians and Vedic chanting.

Katy Perry rose to fame with the release of her single "I Kissed a Girl" in 2008. Her second album "Teenage Dream" was released in August 2010 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

Russell Brand is and English actor and comedian, best known for his roles in the movies "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "Get Him to Greek" and most recently, "Despicable Me."
