The Bulgarian company Economedia and the Re:TV have filed a copy rights case against the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP).
The media claims that BSP used materials ordered by the newspaper Kapital, and created by Re:TV without the permission of any of the two sides.
During its election campaign BSP issued a TV clip, more famous as “the plane and the ax”, in which it used scenes of a Kapital interview with Ivan Kostov and Mardin Dimitrov, leader of the rightist Blue Coalition.
“Despite the promises of BSP's elections headquarters, the advertisement was not stopped”, Re:TV CEO, Asen Grigorov, explained.
In September, Economedia and Re:TV sent a notary invitation to BSP to pay a BGN 45 000 compensation. The sum was estimated at average market prices for the creation of a elections advertisement, Grigorov said.
Both companies filed the copy rights case after no answer from BSP had been received.
Economedia owns a large number of newspapers and other media, among which Dnevnik Daily, and Kapital.
