Ivan Antikadzhiev, Union of Free Democrats Candidate for Sofia Mayor

Ivan Antikadzhiev is the candidate of the Union of Free Democrats in the Sofia Mayor Elections Scheduled for November 15, 2009.

The Union of Free Democrats is a rightist party founded and chaired by Stefan Sofiyanski, who was the Mayor of Sofia from 1995 until 2005 (reelected twice – 1999 and 2003).

Ivan Antikadzhiev was born in 1954 in Dobrich. He graduated from the Sofia Medical University with a degree in dental medicine in 1979, and has had a practice ever since. He also runs a private medical clinic in Sofia.

In 1991-1992, he was Deputy Minister of Health in the first non-socialist government of Bulgaria after 1989. He has been part of the Union of Free Democrats since its founding in 2001. Antikadzhiev has also been a chair of the Bulgarian Dentists’ Union.

He ran for Parliament in the July 2009 elections from the UFD party but failed to get elected.
