The Regional Prosecutor's Office in the city of Yambol has charged the driver of the bus that killed 16 people Thursday with reckless murder.

The information was posted Friday on the official site of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The charge says the driver, who is in a hospital in Sofia with concussion, committed extremely grave violations of the traffic law.

The investigators also found out the driver was hired without the required psychological evaluation, while his last physical exam expired in 2007.

The owner of the bus and manager of the transportation company, Slav Slavov, is also charged with causing death due to the recklessness or ignorance of more than one individual.

The authorities' main version for the cause of the tragedy remains the bus' faulty breaks, but proof is pending the technical investigation that already began Friday. Police have confiscated the entire paperwork of the company in the town of Elhovo that conducted the bus' inspection.
