"Our population scared off the migrants. Authorities were trying to behave like Europeans, but with people emanating such hatred this tsunami [the migrant influx] went around Bulgaria. They preferred to go via Macedonia ans Serbia and the reason is that we forged a bad image of ourselves in their eyes. We don't react to this like Europeans."

Andrey Raychev, co-owner of Gallup International - Bulgaria polling agency, has his own idea about why the flow of migrants bound for Germany goes via Macedonia and Serbia and not via Bulgaria.
