Bulgaria’s Parliament has voted to terminate the term in office of MP Veselin Vuchkov, former Interior Minister.
The early termination of Vuchkov’s term in office as MP was approved by 130 MPs, woth 4 votes against and 9 abstentions, according to reports of investor.bg.
Vuchkov’s resignation from the post of Interior Minister was approved on Wednesday.
He made clear Wednesday that he would not take advantage of his constitutional right to return to Parliament after stepping down as Interior Minister.
Vuchkov said he would leave the post of Interior Minister after it turned out that the government was not going to back his proposal for the launch of procedures for the replacement of the Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry and the heads of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) and the State Agency Technical Operations (DATO).
He said that his decision had been triggered by the lack of trust in him on the part of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, as well as his opposition to the replacement of Svetlozar Lazarov, Chief Secretary of the Interior, Vladimir Pisanchev, Chair of DANS, and Tsvetan Kitov, head of DATO.
On Wednesday, Bulgaria’s Parliament elected Rumyana Bachvarova Interior Minister.
Bachvarova had been nominated by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
Svetlozar Lazarov and Vladimir Pisanchev have also been removed from office as of Wednesday after resigning on Friday at the request of the Prime Minister.
Under a decree of President Rosen Plevneliev issued on Wednesday, Georgi Kostov was appointed Chief Secretary of the Interior, while Pisanchev was removed from the post of DANS Chair.
