Bulgarian provider of healthcare services City Clinic starts an investment programme, which exceeds BGN 200 M.

This foresees the construction of an oncological hospital in Sofia, extension of the already existing hospital in Sofia with a new building, and the construction of a multi-profile hospital in Varna with over 150 beds, money.bg reports.

The investment fund Empower Capital, which distributes resources from the European Investment Fund (EIF), will also join the programme, making its first invesment in a Bulgarian company.

The first step is the investment of BGN 70 million for the construction of Oncological City Clinic centre in Sofia, with expectations that the medical facility will start treating its first patients by the end of 2015.

The target is for City Clinic to become the largest provider of healthcare services in Bulgaria in the next three years.

The Oncological centre will have at its disposal three linear accelerators from the highest class, over 100 beds and will provide oncological patients with access to unique technologies and informational decisions.

It will provide a broad range of services, including medical oncology, radiation therapy and radiosurgery, nuclear medicine, transplantation of bone marrow and therapy with stem cells, genetic consultations and oncohematology.

City Clinic's co-founder and executive director Ilian Grigorov said that the aim of the new oncological hospital is to provide the first muti-disciplinary treatment of oncological patients in Bulgaria.

Their ambition is to provide Bulgarian oncological patients with treatment at a level which will exceed the services offered by other oncological centres in the region.

Andrey Markov, co-founder and executive director of City Clinic, expressed expectations that oncological patients from neighbouring countries will also choose the hospital to have access to such treatment.

Empower Capital's director Elvin Guri motivated his company's decision to invest BGN 5 million in the oncological hospital project with the belief in City Clinic's mission to provide healthcare services of world quality to as many Bulgarians as possible.

Guri concludes that his company's fund, which was established with the help of the European Commission Jeremie programme exists to support such brave projects, both in the healthcare and other sectors.
