Bulgarian authorities have reacted in an adequate and timely manner in the case of a patient with suspected Ebola-like symptoms but improvements are needed to ensure increased public awaraness of the threat, Health Minister Petar Moskov said on Friday.

While confirming that a patient hospitalised on Thursday in Sofia with symptoms similar to those of Ebola hasn't been infected with the deadly virus, Moskov said it is of great public interest to have information about people arriving in Bulgaria from countries with high epidemiologic risk.

Under current Bulgarian legislation the only way for health authorities to get that kind of information is to inform people arriving from risk countries to consult a doctor, Moskov told a news conference.

"We'll draft an improved and very clear algorithm for everyone involved and will supply as soon as possible the specific protective clothing to regional Health Inspectorate branches, medical emergency units, hospitals for infectious diseases and refugee centres," Moskov said.

He added the past hours' developments related to the suspicions of Ebola in Bulgaria had been "a stress test that fortunately turned out to be only a training."
