Bulgaria: Bulgaria Wins Silver at Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Sofia

Bulgaria's rhythmic gymnastics team won a silver medal in the all-around stage of the 2014 Dundee World Cup held in the capital Sofia this weekend.

On Saturday, Mihaela Maevska, Tsvetelina Stoyanova, Tsvetelina Naydenova, Reneta Kamberova and Hristiyana Todorova obtained a total result of 35 200 for their two choreographies, with 17 500 awarded to the two-ribbon and three-ball performance and 17 700 to that including five pairs of clubs.

Russia was awarded the gold medal with a total of 35 800 points (18 000 and 17 800 for the two routines, respectively).

Italy took the bronze with 34 800 points.

The Bulgarian team's coach, Ina Ananieva, told the Bulgarian National Television that she was satisfied with the results.

"Our girls did perfectly, since the tension was huge. They made two very good routines with some slight inaccuracies with ribbons and balls. I do nor regret anything, because to beat an Olympic champion is very difficult," Ananieva explained.

A total of 18 teams attend the event after France, Israel, Canada and Switzerland pulled off shortly before the competition.

The World Cup, which is being staged at the Arena Armeec hall in Sofia, is due to enter its second day on Sunday at 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT).
