Algerian national Salahedin bin Aladdin, prime suspect in the attack on 20 -year-old Bulgarian store clerk Victoria Hristova, has been arrested.
The information was reported Wednesday morning by the Interior Ministry. No further details are available at this time.
Hristova was stabbed several times early Saturday morning during an armed robbery at the 24-hour store on "Pirotska" street where she worked. She was taken to the emergency "Pirogov" hospital in serious condition, but without danger to her life. The young woman is expected to be released within a few days, doctors say.
In the aftermath, the nationalist party VMRO staged mass anti-immigrant rallies, while several beatings of Roma and people from Africa and the Middle East were reported. Meanwhile, the prosecution announced it was launching pretrial proceedings against VMRO Deputy Chair and nationalist municipal councilor Angel Dzhambazki and five other persons for inciting hatred.
The mass police raid in search of the perpetrator of the attack led to the arrests of more than 60 people.
