Four MPs from the ultra-nationalist Golden Dawn party were taken to court in Athens on Tuesday to begin their hearing on charges of belonging to a criminal organization.

The four deputies, along with party leader Nikolaos Michaloliakos and his number two Christos Pappas, face charges of heading a criminal organization responsible for a range of felonies, including murder, assault, blackmail and money laundering, reports the daily Kathimerini.

Party spokesperson Ilias Kasidiaris was the first to give his deposition, which lasted 5 hours, late into Tuesday night.

Earlier, the anti-terrorism squad asked for the permission of the Supreme Court to probe the cell phone records of another 25 people, including some who appear to be connected to the murder of rapper Pavlos Fyssas on September 17.

The magistrate will now decide if the suspects remain in detention until a trial date is set. Party leader.
