Bulgarian football champions Ludogorets Razgrad have been handed a tough draw in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round, as the team will face Swiss giants Basel.
But while the team’s fans may have been disappointed by the draw, those anticipating Roger Waters' show "The Wall"on August 30 at the National Stadium “Vasil Levski” in Sofia, have been relieved.
Ludogorets will face Basel at the National Stadium on August 20 or August 21 in the first leg, it was made clear on Friday – which means that there would be no obstacles for the concert to take place.
The much anticipated show would have been jeopardized if the Bulgarian team was drawn to play the second leg at home on August 27 or 28, as the stage for the concert needs at least seven days to be prepared.
Bulgarian Sports Minister Mariana Georgieva assured Ludogorets on Thursday that the team will play at the National Stadium no matter what. Many music fans were outraged by Georgieva’s statement, while Ludogorets owner Kiril Domuschiev threatened to withdraw his investments from Bulgarian football if his team was forced to play its home game outside the country.
The National Stadium “Vasil Levski” is the only sports venue in Bulgaria that is licensed to host a Champions League playoff game.
