Code yellow for potentially dangerous weather has been declared for Thursday for 17 regions in Bulgaria.

The warning by the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology affects northern, eastern and central Bulgaria.

Winds from the north-west will bring colder air to the country and temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with highs of 14-20 degrees Centigrade in the west.

The movement of air will also bring significant cloudiness and precipitation, at times with thunder, is expected in western Bulgaria.

The colder air is expected to reach eastern Bulgaria overnight, casting a cold spell on Friday.

Friday is set to be cool, with lows in the range of 5-12 C and highs at 16-21 C.

Starting Saturday, the weather will warm up again, setting the stage of what is expected to be a warm and sunny next week.
