Tunisia and Egypt support the territorial integrity of their neighbor Libya and are against its federalization, said Tunisian Foreign Affairs Minister Rafik Ben Abdessalem.
Speaking for Libyan information agency LANA, Ben Abdessalem said that it is in Tunisia and Egypt's best interest to "preserve the national unity, security and stability in Libya."
His comments come after this week leaders of Eastern Libya (Cyrenaica) declared "semi-autonomy" and called for a federal constitution of their country.
This, other Libyan leaders had warned, could lead to a falling apart of the country.
"The one-sided declaration was rejected both by Libya's elite, and by Libya's people as a whole," said Ben Abdessalem after holding meeting his Egyptian counterpart in Cairo.
"Among the things learned from the Tunisian and then the Egyptian revolutions is that policies in the Arab world are tightly interconnected and we exert significant influence on each other," added he.
The Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs said that his country and Egypt are deeply interested in Libya's stability, both as fellow Arabs and as neighboring countries.
