Hosni Mubarak, who recently resigned as President of Egypt under popular pressure and after 18 days of massive street protests, is gravely ill and has even fallen into a coma, according to local media reports.

Mubarak is in very serious heath condition and has slipped into a coma, the Egyptian daily Al-Masry Al-Youm reported Sunday. It repeated rumors that the 83-year-old former head-of-state also fainted twice during his infamous I-won't-quit speech last week, delivered just a day before he did step down.

Another report, from an Israeli French-language magazine named JSS News, claims that Mubarak, who has long been rumored to be suffering from cancer, is in the terminal phase of disease. According to the media he is currently on his death bead in a hospital in Baden, Germany.

Egypt's prime minister and an Obama administration official have denied these rumors, saying the former Egyptian president is actually in the seaside resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, where he has long had a private residence.
