Bulgaria: Romanian Police, Schengen System Bust 192 Criminals in 2011

The Romanian police have apprehended a total of 192 people, who have been internationally investigated and included in Schengen's Information System since the beginning of 2011.

There has been a European arrest warrant against 36 of the apprehended individuals, the Romanian police has clarified.. Twenty-three people wanted by the Romanian authorities have also been busted in other Schengen member states.

More than 60 goods, including cars stolen in France and Germany, have also been discovered

Romania is not a Schengen member yet but, together with Bulgaria, it has started working with the Schengen Information System (SIS). However, the two Balkan states are experiencing hardships on their way towards entering Europe's border-free zone, as the final report of EU experts on their preparedness for Schengen accession has concluded that they have not met the technical criteria to join it.
