Chile has been hit by yet another earthquake on Friday, 600 kms to the north of the country’s capital, Santiago.

The epicentre was some 80 km south west of the city of Copiapo, at a depth of 35 km. Its effects were felt as far away as Santiago, according to the US Geological Survey.

The quake struck a few minutes before noon (local time). There have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The South American country is still in ruins from the February 27 quake that set off tsunamis and powerful aftershocks.?

The initial earthquake, which registered 8,8 on the Richter scale, caused 452 deaths, destroyed USD 8 B worth of homes, schools and hospitals, and cost nearly USD 1 B in road damages.
