Bulgaria is not going to nominate any bidders for the positions of EU President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs that are to be introduced after the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.
This has been announced by Veselin Valkanov, an official at Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry, after Monday’s meeting of the Bulgarian Council on EU Affairs.
The only Bulgarian nomination put forth publicly was that of former Tsar and former Prime Minister, Simeon Saxe-Coburg. It was proposed by Solomon Passy, former Foreign Minister of Bulgaria. However, Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov has rejected it.
The Council prepared Bulgaria’s participation in the EU Summit Meeting on October 29-30, 2009, in Burssels.
Valkanov said Bulgaria was ready to consider the bidders of the other EU states for the President and High Representative positions.
Bulgaria’s main focus during the upcoming EU Council Summit will be on concentrating EU efforts in order to fight unemployment.
