Libya's President, Muammar Qaddafi, has welcomed the "courage" of the Scottish and UK authorities in their decision to release the Lockebie bomber, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi.
The hero's welcome that Al Megrahi, who has terminal prostate cancer, received upon returning to his country led to many protests in the USA and the West.
Qaddafi has thanked his "friend", PM Gordon Brown, and Queen Elizabeth for the "brave historic decision", according to a report of the Libyan information agency JANA.
To reply to Western protests against the hero's welcome that the sentenced Lockerbie bomber has received, Qaddafi has compared his case to that of the six Bulgarian medics who were sentenced to life imprisonment by Libyan court for infecting kids with AIDS in Libya; in 2007, they were transferred to Bulgaria and were pardoned by the Bulgarian President, and give a hero's welcome in Sofia.
Qaddafi has pointed out that he had agreed on the transfer of the six medics to Bulgaria on the condition that they serve the rest of their sentences in a Bulgarian prison.
The Libyan leader has asked how come no one had protested their pardoning and release, and now there were protests against the release of Al Megrahi.
"Perhaps they have feelings, and we don't? Maybe we are donkeys, and they are people? This fuels the feeling of injustice and terrorism that we suffer," Qaddafi has said as quoted by BGNES.
