Bulgaria's Central Bank Governor, Ivan Iskrov, has handed in his resignation, parliament speaker Tsetska Tsacheva confirmed early Thursday.

Tsacheva reported the news before Thursday's extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly.

At 08:35 the Bulgarian parliament received a request from Iskrov asking to be released from his position. He stated that the reason for his resignation was the new GERB government's decision to revoke the appointment of his deputy Nikolay Nenovski.

On Monday the parliamentary Budget Committee revoked the appointment of Nenovski as the Deputy Governor of Bulgaria's Central bank (BNB).

Bulgaria's PM Boyko Borisov was reported at the beginning of August to have given up on plans to oust Iskrov, reelected in a highly controversial parliamentary vote just before the elections.
