Japan's Prince Akishino and his wife, Princess Kiko, together with Bulgaria's President Parvanov opened Friday a Museum of Thracian Art in the village of Aleksandrovo near the southern Bulgarian city of Haskovo.

Prince Akishino, the second son of Japanese Emperor Akihito, and his wife Princess Kiko arrived on a three-day visit to Bulgaria on May 13 as part of their two-week tour of Europe.

The construction of the Museum of Thracian Art has been fully funded by the Japanese government, which has allocated almost USD 3 M for this purpose.

The Museum includes an exhibition hall including a unique 6000-year-old golden Thracian treasure, a smaller model of the nearby Aleksandrovo Thracian tomb, which dates back to 4th century BC, and a modern center for scientific research with latest Japanese-made technological equipment.

Bulgaria's President Parvanov has underscored the fact that Japan had been a major foreign donor for Bulgaria in the recent years.

Later Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko also visited the architectural reserve at the village of Shiroka Laka.
