The Central Election Commission (CEC) in Bulgaria has confirmed that a total of 6,575,151 citizens are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections on April 19. The update was provided by Deputy Chairperson and spokesperson Rositsa Mateva, who said preparations are continuing on schedule.
Mateva stated that training for members of the Section Election Commissions is still ongoing, although some issues have been reported in Sofia. According to her, certain CEC instructions regarding the printing of methodological guidelines have not been followed. “We will contact Minister Georgi Sharkov and the Sofia regional governor,” she said.
She also reminded voters that April 13 is the deadline for submitting applications to vote with a mobile ballot box. Because the date falls on a non-working day, she urged municipal authorities to ensure that designated officials are available to receive applications.
The CEC confirmed that the final voter list now stands at 6,575,151, slightly lower than in the previous parliamentary elections held on October 27, 2024, when 6,601,262 citizens were eligible to vote.
Officials also provided additional breakdowns, noting that 9,525 voters are placed under guardianship, while 4,311 individuals serving prison sentences without voting rights are excluded from participation. In addition, 577 permits have been issued allowing specific individuals such as candidates, observers, and election officials to vote outside their assigned precincts.
A total of 1,251 polling stations will be designated for voters with disabilities across the country. These facilities will include accessibility features such as tactile voting templates for visually impaired citizens, as well as QR code systems that convert written information into audio format.
Mateva also confirmed that information services will again provide video surveillance coverage of the election process, as part of standard monitoring procedures aimed at ensuring transparency during voting day.
