Bulgaria: Fuel Prices Rise in Bulgaria: Diesel Nears 1.80 Euros, Petrol Also Up

Fuel prices in Bulgaria have continued to edge upward, with diesel and gasoline both registering increases in the days following the Easter holiday. According to market data, the average price of A95 petrol currently stands at around 1.48 euros per liter, while diesel has reached approximately 1.78 euros per liter, with some stations reporting even higher levels.

Figures from the National Revenue Agency indicate that diesel prices have climbed by about 10 euro cents since the beginning of April. Between April 1 and April 13, prices at different fuel stations have fluctuated between 1.77 and 1.79 euros per liter, with occasional peaks reaching up to 1.90 euros depending on the location and supplier.

Petrol has shown a more modest increase over the same period. At the start of April, the average price of A95 gasoline was 1.46 euros per liter, rising gradually to the current level of 1.48 euros. A survey of major fuel retailers in Sofia, including OMV, EKO, Shell, Lukoil and Petrol, shows retail prices typically ranging between 1.50 and 1.53 euros per liter.

The current price adjustment comes amid broader state efforts to cushion the impact of rising fuel costs. The government has launched a compensation scheme aimed at offsetting transport expenses for individuals affected by higher prices linked to global energy market pressures, particularly those stemming from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Under the program, eligible citizens receive monthly support of 20 euros. Authorities describe the measure as part of a wider attempt to ease financial pressure on households while fuel prices remain sensitive to geopolitical developments and global supply conditions.
