The Croatian parliament voted on Monday to dissolve itself, paving the way for the holding of early parliamentary elections, which are most likely to take place in early September.
A total of 137 MPs voted in favour of the parliament's dissolution, twolawmakers were against and one abstained.
This development comes after a vote of no confidence in the government of Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic was passed last week.
The dissolution will come into effect on July 15 when Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic will call early elections, which should be held within thirty to sixty days.
The most likely date for the elections is the first or second Sunday of September, Total Croatia News informs.
Croatia has been gripped by a political crisis since January due to irreconcilable differences between members of the coalition government, in particular between HDZ and MOST.
The crisis deepened further when First Deputy Prime Minister and president of HDZ, Tomislav Karamarko, was found to be in conflict of interest due to business connections between his wife and a consultant to the Hungarian oil company MOL, which is part of Croatia's oil company INA.
MOST demanded the resignation of Karamarko, but he refused to step down without a vote on motion of no confidence in the whole government.
