Bulgarian Deputy Prime Meglena Kuneva, who is candidate for becoming the country's new education minister, will be presented to MPs from the parties constituting the coalition government on Tuesday.
Apart from the parliamentary groups of the main ruling party GERB and the junior coalition partners from the Reformist Bloc (RB), there will be also MPs from the two parties supporting the ruling coalition – the Patriotic Front (PF) and the Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (RB).
MPs will hear the concepts of Kuneva for reforms in the education sector, with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov also expected to attend the hearing.
Borisov, who approved Kuneva as candidate for new education minister, will table her nomination for voting in parliament on Wednesday.
Kuneva is to replace Education Minister Todor Tanev, who resigned on Monday after being asked to step down by Borisov last week.
The reason for his resignation are the systematic problems in the education system and the proposed controversial changes to the school curriculum which have not been subject to broad public discussion.
RB nominated Kuneva after Borisov had allowed his junior coalition partners to determine the candidate for new education minister as the portfolio comes from their quota.
Tanev did not resign immediately, saying he will not step down before he has had a meeting with the prime minister.
During the weekend, it emerged that after his resignation Tanev will be appointed as adviser to Borisov.
One of the co-chairpersons of the parliamentary group of RB, Nayden Zelenogorski, identified Kuneva as determined and experienced politician capable of implementing the education reforms.
Zelenogorski added that road map for development of RB, which includes a political memorandum between RB and GERB for accelerating the reforms in the priority sectors, should be adopted by February 15.
A new agreement between the parties constituting RB, which is to replace the foundation agreement, will be also devised and signed soon.
GERB leader Boyko Borissov reacted to the fall of the Zhelyazkov government during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page, following the mass protests across the country.
