Bulgaria: CAS Expected to Rule This Week on Appeal of Olympics Ban on Bulgarian Lifters

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) expects to rule this week on the doping-related ban of Bulgarian weightlifters from the 2016 Olymics in Rio de Janeiro, the AP has reported.

The appeal of the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation against exclusion from the Olympic Games 2016 by the International Weightlifting Federation was heard at the court on Monday, according to the newswire.

Lausanne-based CAS has said it planned to issue a ruling by the end of January.

Eight men and three women Bulgarian athletes, who were preparing for the April 9-18 European championship in Tbilisi, Georgia, had tested positive for stanozolol, an anabolic steroid banned for use in competitions by many international sports bodies.
