Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova said during the regular parliamentary control on Friday that the migratory flow through Bulgaria has increased by nearly two and a half times this year.
In comparison, Bachvarova noted that there was a five-sixfold increase in Europe, daily Dnevnik informs.
In the past weeks, the migratory flow through Bulgaria has virtually stopped, but the minister warned that this should not serve as a reason for calming down the efforts on tackling it.
Bachvarova outlined the measures taken in addressing the refugee wave, above all the heightened presence of security personnel at the Bulgarian-Turkish border.
There were a total of 631 police officers at the border with Turkey, 429 of them posted from other structures of border police and 202 from the regional departments of the interior ministry.
A total of 40 troops are providing logistical assistance to the border policemen, with readiness to increase their number to 200 in case the need arises.
In the event of an immediate increase of the migratory flow, the interior ministry has readiness to concentrate police forces in the affected areas within six hours.
The ministry was also using the integrated system for surveillance of the border, but Bachvarova admitted that there were problems with its maintenance.
