A committee with Bulgaria's Parliament overseeing activities at energy watchdog KEVR has passed amendments to put off an increase in electricity prices for a month.
The move allows for price hikes in electricity industrial consumers to take place a month later than initially planned.
Changes were set to take place as of July 1, but this sparked anger from business unions whose leaders threatened to organize strike action on a daily basis if prices go up starting that date.
The energy regulator KEVR (Commission for Energy and Water Regulation) is under pressure to abandon plans for a rise in power prices which it says is inevitable to support the debt-ridden energy system.
Bulgaria's government also spoke against the hikes over the weekend, and PM Boyko Borisov said he would also join protests called by businesses if KEVR does not backtrack.
