Bulgaria Ex-IntMin Tsvetanov Says He Is Not Afraid of Prosecution

''I am not afraid that I can be prosecuted,'' stated former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov in an interview for bTV.
Tsvetanov stated that he is not sure of the date when the Supreme Court of Cassation (VKS) needs to announce its decision on the court case against him regarding his refusal to order wiretapping of criminal suspects.
''There are many more important events prior to that,'' he added. ''Easter is coming up, I turn 50 on Wednesday and I had my name day yesterday.''
Deputy chair of center-right party GERB commented on the proposals for amendments to legislation in relation to the justice system. The project was introduced in Parliament without the knowledge of Justice Minister Hristo Ivanov, thus causing rumors of turmoil in the party headquarters.
Tsvetanov stated that the work done by the minister should receive ''high praise'' and added that the proposal was in alignment with the vision of the party itself for the judicial reform.
He said that the new legislation ''should not lead to massive stealing of assets and needs to protect the country's sovereignty''.
Tsvetanov also outlined the future goals of GERB at the upcoming local elections.
''We currently have 94 mayors, and will be aiming for increasing them to over 100,'' he added. '' We have 1601 representatives in municipalities across the country. We would like them to become around 1700.''
