Lazarov and Pisanchev, as already became clear, represent a model that we in GERB have been fighting against.
These were the words of Interior Minister Veselin Vuchkov who submitted his resignation on March 4 and added that the ruling center-right party has put a lot of efforts into launching the long-anticipated government reform.
The reason behind his wish be removed from office was said to be the fact that the new procedure passed in Parliament regarding the selection of Directors of State Agency for National Security (DANS), State Agency for Technical Operations (DATO) and the Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry were not transparent enough.
Vuchkov insisted that the current holders of the positions be substituted as a Presidential edict was never signed when they were appointed, thus their staying in office would have been illegal.
''The first reason I had was the opposition on the part of PM Borisov for me to initiate a change in the management of the Interior Ministry, as well as my wish to substitute the Directors of DANS -Vladimir Pisanchev and of DATO - Tsvetan Kitov,'' Vuchkov said in an interview for NOVA TV station. ''Secondly, the lack of trust on the part of the PM towards me over the past days with regards to my proposals.''
He added that after the law ammendments regarding the procedures of appointing directors of state agencies and ministries were passed in Parliament, he demanded a meeting with Borisov.
Vuchkov stated that leaving Svetlozar Lazarov as Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry could compromise the reform being launched. He said the Lazarov has been sending ''negative impulses'' along the entire system of the ministry.
Vuchkov added that he would personally congratulate both Pisanchev and Lazarov on their resignations, submitted on Friday last week.
