A 44-year-old Bulgarian national has been sentenced to ten years of imprisonment in Austria for attempting to smuggle heroin through the country.

The district court in Ried im Innkreis declared the man guilty of smuggling nearly 22 kg of heroin through Austria, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

The man was arrested in end-April on a highway in the region of the Suben municipality, Upper Austria.

He has claimed that he has nothing to do with the seized shipment of drugs.
