A mass brawl between Bulgarians and Roma in the northern Bulgarian village of Karlukovo has left five injured.
The regional police department in Lukovit received a tip-off about the incident at 8:20 pm on Sunday, according to reports of 24Hours daily.
According to the tip-off, a personal conflict escalated into a mass brawl between Roma and Bulgarians.
Local police responded immediately, erecting barriers to prevent the fight from spreading.
All participants and eyewitnesses of the fight have been identified and two men have been detained for a period of 24 hours.
During the fight, the the rear window of a BMW of a 22-year-old woman from the village got broken.
A 55- year old man sustained an elbow fracture and graze wounds to the head, a 23-year-old man suffered a lacerated wound to the head, a 41-year-old man was stabbed in the right biceps and suffered multiple bruises on the chest, an 18-year-old man sustained a head injury and multiple injuries from blows to the chest with a blunt object, and a 27-year-old suffered head and chest injuries.
All of the injured are residents of Karlukovo, and some of them have been taken to hospital to receive medical treatment.
Local police have launched pre-trial proceedings into the matter and have taken steps to alleviate tensions in the village.
