The central dispatch unit of Bulgaria's only Nuclear Power Plant "Kozloduy" has decided to reduce electric energy production over system safety reasons.

Bozhan Stoyanov, caretaker Deputy Economy and Energy Minister, assuages there is nothing unusual in such decision as it had been made many times already and it was rather technical and not connected to any emergency.

Speaking before Focus news agency Thursday, Stoyanov reported that many of the country's dams were filled to the top and more water is expected, prompting the need to use it for electric power production in order to prevent overflowing.

He says the Water Power Plants, WPP, energy comes practically at no cost at the moment, stressing there is also the required minimum of functioning Thermal Power Plants, TPP, to secure the stability of the energy system.

According to Stoyanov, the decisions which power plants must be taken off the electric grid are also grounded on fiscal principles and if needed renewable energy plants could be switched off as well.

Meanwhile, the Electric Energy System Operator, ESO, announced that because it was currently impossible to maintain a balance between demand and supply, effective April 3, 2013, ESO is imposing restrictions in the production of electricity from all types of plants.
